What are effective ways to support people diagnosed with psychosis and experience visions, different realities, paranoia, or voices? Are there ways out of power struggles over medication and “insight?” How can new methods such as Open Dialogue and harm reduction show a new way forward? What role can families play in mental health recovery?
In this workshop you will learn innovative communication tools to respond to extreme experiences that often get labeled schizophrenia, bipolar, and psychosis. How can we overcome hopelessness, despair, and alienation and restore strong family bonds to create the possibility for change? How can a trauma informed, recovery based pathway lead us out of the trap of the disease model? Does recovery happen inside an individual, or is it a mutual process for the family as a whole – and the community?
Workshop leader Will Hall brings a unique survivor perspective to his work as clinicians in family mental health recovery internationally, and has been widely recognized for his innovative and effective approaches.
